Exclusive Premiere: BIG Something Shares ‘Wildfire’ Off ‘The Otherside’

North Carolina-based jam act Big Something are gearing up for the April 20th release of The Otherside, their follow-up to 2017’s Tumbleweed. Today, JamBase is pleased to premiere audio of the latest single from the LP, “Wildfire.”

BIG Something recorded The Otherside with Grammy-nominated producer John Custer, who has produced all five of the band’s albums, at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville. “Wildfire” is part of an effort the six-piece has broken into two distinct halves, each lasting approximately 20 minutes. “I love the layers in this song both musically and lyrically. We had fun messing with the sonic landscape of this track in the studio,” lead vocalist and guitarist Nick MacDaniels tells JamBase about “Wildfire.”

MacDaniels went on to discuss how the song came into its own in the studio, “There’s a lot of new little parts that weren’t there when we first started playing it live. There’s also a weird thing happening where the vibe of the music is kind of blissful and feel good, but the lyrics are more dark and tragic with references to the world going up in flames and the excessive amount of digital information we’re exposed to on a daily basis. I think that juxtaposition is kind of fitting for the climate of the world right now.”
