Exclusive Audio | Old & in the Way – Old and in the Way Breakdown

One week ago today we shared the exciting news that David Grisman has released high-definition recordings of two shows featuring his legendary Old & In The Way band from 40 years ago as Old & In The Way – The Complete Boarding House Tapes via Acoustic Oasis. The compilation features 55 tracks, 14 of which had never been issued before, performed by Grisman, Jerry Garcia on banjo, John Kahn on bass, guitarist Peter Rowan and fiddle virtuoso Vassar Clements.

We’re excited to share one of the tracks that had never been issued before -“Old and in the way Breakdown” -from the October 1, 1973 concert. Check it out:

“This traditional sounding banjo tune was written by Jerry for the band. This particular track is one of the 14 previously unissued performances from these two shows and features some great fiddle playing by Vassar as well as some really driving ‘hardcore’ bluegrass banjo pickin’ by Garcia,” Grisman told JamBase about the track.
