New Orleans Americana act Ever More Nest announced a holiday record. The Merry Little Thing EP arrives on November 22 and is previewed with “Back in the Doghouse on Christmas.”
Captured in NOLA with support from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, Merry Little Thing sees Ever More Nest songwriter Kelcy Wilburn teaming back up with renowned producer Mark Bingham, who also added “space guitars” to the project. The EP sees additional contributions from John Fohl (Dr. John, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies) on electric guitars, lap steel and mandolin as well as Chris Nicotera on bass.

“The holidays elicit a variety of emotions and therefore make for great songwriting fodder,” Wilburn stated. “The holidays can be merry, sure, but they can also be challenging. As a songwriter, I think it’s important to capture the spectrum of experiences holidays bring.”
Merry Little Thing also contains a take on the melancholic Judy Garland Meet Me In St. Louis version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and Wilburn’s original “Where Do The Holidays Go.”
Press materials described lead single “Back in the Doghouse on Christmas” as “cleverly [subverting] classic country tropes, following a queer couple’s marital tribulations with the same wit Nashville’s hitmakers have long reserved for straight relationships. The track showcases Ever More Nest’s signature alt-country sound while bringing a playful holiday twist to the classic “sleeping in the doghouse” narrative.”
