Eric Clapton Performing At Madison Square Garden In 2017

Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton will return to Madison Square Garden in New York City to hold concerts on October 6 and 7. Clapton’s “only remaining North American shows for 2018” follow four shows held at the renowned NYC venue that were part of Slowhand’s sparse 2017 performance schedule. This edition of Sunday Cinema takes a look back at Clapton’s most recent 50th anniversary performances at MSG.

Clapton’s band in October will feature guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, bassist Nathan East, drummer Sonny Emory, keyboardists Chris Stainton and Paul Carrack and vocalists Sharon White and Sharlotte Gibson. Like the four MSG 2017 concerts, the upcoming pair of shows will include special guests Jimmy Vaughan and Gary Clark Jr..

Last March 19 and 20 and again on September 7 and 8, Clapton was supported by East, Stainton, Gibson and White along with drummer Steve Gadd and keyboardist Walt Richmond. The shows mixed classic blues covers long a part of Clapton’s repertoire, Cream favorites, Derek & The Dominos tunes and other selections from throughout the 72-year-old guitarist’s career.
