Eric Clapton Welcomes Marcus King In Nashville
Jimmie Vaughan also added to last night's "High Time We Went" encore.
Nashville’s own Marcus King helped renowned guitarist Eric Clapton close out his show at the Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday night. Jimmie Vaughan also joined Clapton and his band for the “High Time We Went” encore last night in Nashville.
Eric Clapton, bassist Nathan East, drummers Sonny Emory and Steve Gadd, guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, keyboardists Chris Stainton and Paul Carrack as well as backing vocalists Katie Kissoon and Sharon White unleashed a 14-song performance in Nashville filled with staples from Slowhand’s live repertoire. The band started with an electric segment featuring takes on “Pretending,” “Key To The Highway,” “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” and “I Shot The Sheriff.”
An acoustic portion of the evening followed that started with “Driftin’ Blues.” Next up was the band’s recently debuted take on “Man Of The World” from Peter Green’s time in Fleetwood Mac. A cover of Jimmy Cox’s “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” was followed by Clapton’s own “Tears In Heaven.” Eric then led the band through Derek & The Dominos classic “Layla” to conclude the unplugged sequence.
Last night’s main set ended with more electric performances. Clapton and company stuck with Derek & The Dominos material with “Got To Get Better In A Little While.” From there, Eric led his bandmates on the ballad “Wonderful Tonight.” The pairing of “Little Queen Of Spades” and “Cocaine” brought the main set to a close.
Marcus King and support act Jimmie Vaughan emerged with EC and his band for Tuesday’s encore. The ensemble tore through Joe Cocker’s “High Time We Went” with Vaughan, Clapton, King and Bramhall each getting a turn to solo. Marcus reeled off more bluesy licks to end the tune to the delight of his hometown crowd.
