Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton paid tribute to the late Dr. John and performed “Layla” acoustic and electric as part of his tour stop in Mannheim, Germany on Saturday night. The concert took place at the SAP Arena.

Clapton opened the show with an electric run featuring “Pretending” and covers of “Key To The Highway,” “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” and “I Shot The Sheriff.” Next came a five-song acoustic interlude that included a rendition of “Tears In Heaven” dedicated to Dr. John. Eric also led his band through the acoustic version of “Layla” from his time in Derek & The Dominos.

The final electric portion of Slowhand’s concert in Mannheim contained three tunes Clapton recently dusted off in London. He looked to 1986’s August for “Tearing Us Apart” and “Holy Mother.” The songs returned to the repertoire for the first time since 2011 and 2003 respectively last month at the Royal Albert Hall. Later in the night, Eric gave fans a rare double “Layla” by performing the electric version of the song to end his main set. Clapton hadn’t played “Layla” twice in one night since 2001 according to Where’s Eric. “Cocaine” served as the encore.
