Eric Clapton brought out Dhani Harrison for a surprise guest appearance last night at Royal Albert Hall. The son of late The Beatles guitarist George Harrison joined Slowhand and his band for one of his father’s most beloved songs and a B.B. King classic to cap Clapton’s third of four shows at the historic London venue.
George Harrison and Eric Clapton had a deep friendship that spanned from the mid-1960s through Harrison’s death in 2001. Clapton contributed a guitar solo to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” from the Beatles’ 1968 White Album while Harrison took part in the first Derek & The Dominos session. The pair remained close despite Clapton winding up married to Harrison’s former wife, Pattie Boyd, for whom Eric wrote “Layla.” In 2002, Eric Clapton helped organize the Concert For George tribute to Harrison. Dhani was among the participants.

Dhani Harrison emerged for the encore on Thursday following a set from Slowhand loaded with such favorites as “Badge,” “Cocaine,” “Tears In Heaven,” “Crossroads” and “Got To Get Better In A Little While.” Harrison played acoustic guitar on a cover of his father’s 1973 hit “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth).” Eric Clapton handled lead vocals on the song from George Harrison’s Living In The Material World album. The pair last performed “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” together during Clapton’s intimate December 2023 concert in London filmed for the To Save A Child: In The Aid Of The Children Of Gaza broadcast.
Eric Clapton invited Dhani Harrison to stick around for the evening’s “Before You Accuse Me” finale. Longtime Clapton collaborator guitarist Andy Fairweather Low also contributed to the B.B. King cover.
