Comedian David Letterman was honored last night with the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor at The Kennedy Center in Washington D. C. The ceremony featured an appearance by Eddie Vedder who led a performance of a classic Warren Zevon song.

Previous Mark Twain Prize recipients Bill Murray and Steve Martin were among those in attendance at the ceremony Sunday evening. The 70-year-old Letterman retired in 2015 following a 33 year career as a late night talk show host first with Late Night With David Letterman on NBC, later moving to CBS which aired Late Show With David Letterman.

The ceremony at The Kennedy Center featured a performance by Vedder who was also joined by Letterman’s longtime bandleader Paul Shaffer and a choir. The late Warren Zevon was a regular guest on both of Letterman’s talk shows leading up to his death in 2003. Vedder, whose band Pearl Jam was recently inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame by Letterman, performed a rendition of Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart” from the beloved singer-songwriter’s final album The Wind.
