Eddie Vedder Debuts Chris Cornell Cover In Düsseldorf

By Andy Kahn Jul 1, 2019 7:10 am PDT

Eddie Vedder debuted a cover of Chris Cornell’s “Seasons” during a solo performance in Düsseldorf, Germany. The debut came at the end of the Pearl Jam frontman’s set Sunday at Mitsubishi Electric Halle.

Vedder was joined at times by the Red Limo String Quartet. His set mixed Pearl Jam favorites, solo material and covers of songs by the likes of John Lennon, Fugazi, Tom Petty. Prior to starting “Seasons,” which Cornell wrote for the Singles soundtrack, Vedder addressed the audience, noting it was the 19th anniversary of Pearl Jam’s appearance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark during which nine fans were tragically killed when the massive crowd rushed toward the stage.

Vedder told the audience that Pearl Jam had learned of the birth of Cornell’s daughter Lily Cornell Silver just moments before taking the stage that unfortunate day in Denmark in 2000. He then covered “Seasons,” which can be seen below via Bernd Slettenhaar:
