Ebunctions released a new single entitled “Nothing But Your Love.” JamBase is pleased to exclusively premiere the video for the track off of the self-described “yacht soul supergroup’s” upcoming debut album, This Just In, which is set for release on April 22 on TudorTones Records.
Ebunctions is made up of veteran Los Angeles-based session musician vocalist/saxophonist Woody Mankowski and keyboardist/songwriter Jeff Babko (Jimmy Kimmel Live! band, Frank Ocean, Toto, James Taylor). The project began when Mankowski began assembling “quarantine tunes” with Babko, who can be heard on the Billboard #1 hit, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Disney’s Encanto.
“The band members [Babko] suggested for this group sounded a bit intimidating,” Mankowski said. “But I just knew it would work, and this was going to happen.”

Mankowski and Babko were joined by drummer Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Average White Band, John Mayer), bassist Ethan Farmer (Lionel Richie, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake) and guitarist Shane Theriot (Dr. John, Hall & Oates). The 12-song album was co-produced by Mankowski and Babko and recorded by Eric “ET” Thorngren (Talking Heads, Robert Palmer) and Pete Min (Vulfpeck, Meshell N’Degeocello). This Just In includes the previously shared single, “Running In Place.”
Ebunctions shared the below statement regarding “Nothing But Your Love”:
“Nothing But Your Love” is a throwback to Gamble & Huff 1970s Philly soul, complete with real live strings and lush harmonies. Lead singer Woody Mankowski’s performance echoes the richness of Teddy Pendergrass, and then he takes a timeless saxophone solo, which harkens back to Branford Marsalis’ on Shanice’s 1991 classic “I Love Your Smile’”(although Woody claims it was inspired by the great Stanley Turrentine).
This traditional upbeat love song is perfect for a chill night on the dance floor, especially with the rock solid backbeat of rhythm powerhouse team, drummer Steve Ferrone and legendary percussionist Lenny Castro (both currently working together as part of John Mayer’s Sob Rock Tour). Co-producer/keyboardist Jeff Babko was inspired by David Foster’s unsung and retro synth work on Tavares’ “Supercharged.”
This music video points back to the early 1980s (think Frankie Beverly & Maze!), with a “straight to video” look and a tight and funky green screen, leaning into their “yacht soul” personas. “Nothing But Your Love” could be playing on the TV monitors at your local danceteria, laundromat or car wash, but make sure to have them CRANK THAT VOLUME and let everybody groove along with Ebunctions!”
