The Eagles delivered the first two of four hometown concerts at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles this past weekend as part of their farewell Long Goodbye Tour. Both nights saw the band welcoming longtime songwriting collaborator JD Souther for songs he co-wrote with the legendary rockers.
Eagles’ — Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — setlist for the farewell tour is full of favorites, kicking off with their harmony-filled cover of Steve Young’s “Seven Bridges Road.” The hits kept coming with “Take It Easy,” “One Of These Nights” and “Lyin’ Eyes.”

Eagles then welcomed JD Souther, beginning with “Best Of My Love.” Souther co-wrote the song with Henley and the late Glenn Frey. “Best Of My Love” appeared on Eagles’ 1974 album, On The Border. JD stayed on for another co-write with Henley and Frey, “New Kid In Town,” which appeared on Eagles’ landmark 1976 album, Hotel California.
Additional Eagles classics in the set included “Witchy Woman,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Tequila Sunrise.” The band would also dip from guitarist Joe Walsh’s catalog with “In The City,” “Life’s Been Good” and James Gang’s “Funk #49.” The Don Henley solo hit, “The Boys Of Summer,” was dedicated to Jimmy Buffett.
The main set wrapped with two ubiquitous classic rock radio tunes, “Life In The Fast Lane” and “Hotel California.” Eagles came out rockin’ for the three-song encore beginning with Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way.” “Desperado” cooled things down a bit before the band once again welcomed Souther to close the show with a rollicking “Heartache Tonight,” penned by the Souther/Henley/Frey team plus renowned rocker Bob Seger.
