Last night the 2015 Billboard Music Awards opened with an energetic performance by a David Lee Roth fronted Van Halen. After an introduction by Taylor Swift that declared them, “one of the biggest rock bands in the world,” Van Halen performed a song older than the pop star, playing their 1984 hit single “Panama.”

Complete with Roth name-dropping rapper Nicki Minaj mid-song, “Panama” showed offed the nimble guitar work of Eddie Van Halen backed by his son, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen and his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen. Watch their performance of the track from their album 1984 below:

Van Halen begins their North American Tour July 5 at the White River Amphitheatre outside of Seattle. Tickets are available here.
