New Orleans-based funk band Dumpstaphunk confirmed the release date and tracklist for Where Do We Go From Here, their first full-length album in seven years. The 11-track Where Do We Go From Here is due out on April 23 via Mascot Label Group/The Funk Garage.
The politcally-tinged album is said to be “a sharply relevant statement, even more-so than the group anticipated during writing and recording sessions just prior to the unprecedented events of the last year” as per press materials. Special guests include Erica Falls, Marcus King, Chali 2na and Trombone Shorty.

Dumpstaphunk previously released the title track and single “Justice 2020.” The latter features Trombone Shorty and Chali 2na.
The current Dumpstaphunk lineup finds founding members Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, Tony Hall and Nick Daniels joined by Alex Wasily, Ryan Nyther and Devin Trusclair. “We hope people can hear the new songs and are inclined to dance, and inspired to think at the same time,” explained Ivan Neville in a statement.

“Obviously, the New Orleans history is just embedded in us, but we manage to incorporate all the other stuff we’ve listened to over the years,” added Ivan. “We’re representing a legacy, but we’re reimagining a lot of it, too.” Marcus King appears on “United Nations Stomp,” a cover of a Buddy Miles song from 1973. The LP also includes reworked versions of Blackmail’s 1975 gem “Let’s Get At It,” and Sly & The Family Stone’s “In Time” and more.
Dumpstaphunk appears on NPR’s World Café today to discuss and perform songs from the album. Check out the “Justice 2020” video below:
