New Orleans funk act Dumpstaphunk recently shared the anthemic new single “Let’s Do It.” The high-energy track stands as one of the band’s final recordings with the late bassist Nick Daniels III and marks their first studio release since his death in April 2024.
“This song embodies the idea that ‘We’ is stronger than ‘Me.’ When we combine our strengths, talents, and ideas, we can achieve so much more,” Dumpstaphunk keyboardist Ivan Neville reflected on the song. “It’s also one of the last songs we wrote and recorded with our brother and co-founder, Nick Daniels III, who we lost last spring. As we honor his life with this track, we step into a new era of Dumpstaphunk—so… let’s do it!”

Ivan Neville and bassist Tony Hall share lead vocals on the initial verses before Daniels chimes in “I’m good, together we’re great” in stirring fashion. Dumpstaphunk also enlisted guest vocalist Ani DiFranco to contribute to “Let’s Do It.”
Vocalist Viveca Hawkins, the latest addition to the Dumpstaphunk crew, shines on the harmonies. Hawkins suffered a stroke in January and has since undergone two life-saving brain surgeries. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help her recovery.
The new cut includes a dynamic horn arrangement created by band members trombonist Alex Wasily and trumpeter Ashlin Parker. Tenor saxophonist Brad Walker and trumpeter Stephen Lands make appearances to fill out the sound.
