Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan kicked off the U.S. of his Lighthouse Tour ’24 on Monday night at Paradise Rock Club in Boston. McKagan brought out The Wallflowers frontman Jakob Dylan towards the end of the night to perform covers of Johnny Thunders’ “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory” and David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
Duff McKagan is touring in support of Lighthouse, his third solo album, which was released on October 20, 2023. The 60-year-old musician turned in a 22-song set featuring material from the LP, four cuts off 2019’s Tenderness and a batch of choice covers.

Guns N’ Roses made their Boston debut at The Paradise just over 37 years to the day prior and the fact wasn’t lost on Duff. “I played here in f—king 1987,” McKagan told the crowd as per Boston.com’s report. “I’ve been traveling the world before that and ever since. I’ve seen a lot of people, visited countless coffee shops, museums, churches and castles. You name it. I observe and I f—king love it.”
Lee Ving, the frontman of Los Angeles-based hardcore band Fear, opened last night’s concert. Ving came out midway through McKagan’s set to join Duff and his band on the live debut of “All Turning Loose,” a single the pair shared last month.
Duff McKagan also released a cover of “Heroes” last month. The Wallflowers scored a hit in 1998 with their version of the title track from David Bowie’s 1977 studio album. Jakob Dylan was in Boston Monday ahead of The Wallflowers’ Wednesday night show at The Wilbur giving him a chance to perform “Heroes” with McKagan & Co.

The joint “Heroes” cover came after Jakob Dylan contributed to “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory” and before the show-closing “Don’t Look Behind You.” McKagan and Dylan traded vocal duties on the Bowie classic.
