A three-mile stretch of road in Macon was formally re-dedicated as “Duane Allman Memorial Boulevard” last weekend in honor of co-founding The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Duane Allman. Signs indicating “Duane Allman Memorial Boulevard” have been in the works since 2001, but were finally unveiled at a ceremony held at the Library Ballroom, where the Allmans played their first show.

Duane Allman passed away in 1971, though his legacy has lived on forever. Three signs were put up in the days following the ceremony on the stretch of road that includes The Big House, Raymond Berry Oakley III bridge and the H + H restaurant. Duane’s daughter Galadrielle was in attendance at the ceremony. Watch a local news report on the ceremony and Duane Allman Memorial Boulevard:

The ceremony was part of this year’s GABBAfest gathering of Allman Brothers fans from around the globe.
