Dua Lipa completed a four-show run at Madison Square Garden this weekend and the final two nights featured special guests. Lipa first welcomed Chic’s Nile Rodgers during Saturday’s concert and last night she summoned Lenny Kravitz to the stage at The Garden.
Lipa has brought out numerous surprise locally-affiliated performers at various stops of her global Radical Optimism Tour. Rodgers and Kravitz joined the likes of Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Chaka Khan, Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay and others who have accompanied Lipa in performing one of their songs with her this year.
Rodgers played guitar on Chic’s signature 1978 hit “Le Freak.” The song was written by Rodgers and late Chic co-founder Bernard Edwards and became a staple of the disco era. Forty years after its release, “Le Freak” was entered into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2018.
