Drive-By Truckers released a new single entitled “Every Single Storied Flameout.” The track appears on the rock band’s forthcoming studio album, Welcome 2 Club XIII.
The title of the nine-track LP shares its name with the honky-tonk in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where founding members Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley‘s pre-Drive-By Truckers band, Adam’s House Cat, frequently performed. DBT tapped longtime collaborator David Barbe to produce Welcome 2 Club XIII, which was mainly recorded in just three days last summer at Barbe’s studio in Athens, Georgia. The LP follows The Unraveling and The New OK, a pair of studio albums released in 2020. Hood, Cooley and bandmates Jay Gonzalez, Matt Patton and Brad Morgan previously shared Welcome 2 Club XIII’s title track.
Drive-By Truckers are joined by horns for the Cooley-penned “Every Single Storied Flameout.” Mike shared the following about the song:
“I wrote that song when my son was turning 16 and going through a rough patch for a bit. Luckily, he’s turned it around and he’s doing great now, but it was a tough time for a while. Part of my way of dealing with it was to take ownership of the example I might’ve set, in the hope of leading him out of it.”
