The teamed with Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro and Henry Kapono for a new benefit single, “Lahaina.” Proceeds from the track will benefit the Dwayne Johnson-co-founded People’s Fund of Maui to provide support for those impacted by the devastating fires in Lahaina and Kula on the island of Maui in August 2023.
“Lahaina” marks The Doobie Brothers’ first new music since releasing their 2021 album Liberté. Doobie Brothers guitarist and vocalist Pat Simmons co-wrote “Lahaina” with bandmate Michael McDonald and recruited Fleetwood Mac legend Mick Fleetwood to play drums. Fleetwood lost his restaurant in the fires. Additionally, both Simmons and McDonald have residences in Maui.

“I’ve been a resident of Maui for 28 years now and I wanted to make a tribute to the place I’ve called home for so long and help bring awareness and donations for the recovery and relief efforts there,” Simmons stated. “This song is a look back at what Lahaina has meant to all of us. So many people have walked the streets of Lahaina and have felt that aloha spirit and we hope that one day we will walk those streets again.”
Produced by Dobbie collaborator John Shanks, “Lahaina” also sees contributions from ukulele virtuoso and Hawaii’ native Jake Shimabukuro as well as Grammy-nominated musician and Hawaii’ native Henry Kapono.
“It was such an honor to be included in this special song by the Doobie Brothers for the people of Maui,” Shimabukuro added. “Music unites people and strengthens communities. I hope this song will bring comfort and healing to all those affected by the Maui wildfires.
