Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dom Flemons released a bluegrass-tinged cover of Bob Dylan’s “Guess I’m Doing Fine” featuring Sam Bush on fiddle. The song is set to land on Flemons’ forthcoming album, Traveling Wilfire, due out on March 24 via Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.
Dom Flemons tapped Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Lucero) to produce Traveling Wildfire, recorded at Kingsize Soundlabs in Los Angeles. The singer-songwriter recently previewed the new record with the single “Slow Dance With You” and now follows with the Dylan cover.
“The song’s powerful lyrics about resilience in the face of insurmountable odds have resonated with me since I first heard it on CD 20 years ago,” Flemons noted. “After cutting ‘Guess I’m Doing Fine,’ I realized that it would be cool to add a fiddle part to pull out the strains of bluegrass that I found in the song’s structure. I am so fortunate and grateful that my friend Sam Bush was available to add his fiddle to this lively track and bring some of that old-timey flavor to it.”
