Dogs In A Pile concluded a two night stand at Pappy + Harriet’s in Pioneertown, California in the desert outside of Los Angeles on Tuesday. The show saw the New Jersey jam quintet unveiling covers from The Reverend Horton Heat and Marty Robbins.

Dogs In A Pile — guitarists Brian Murray and Jimmy Law, drummer Joey Babick, bassist Sam Lucid and keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan — launched set one with “Can’t Wait For Tonight” followed by a take on The Meters “People Say.”

The Kaplan/Murray co-write “Spun” came next ahead of the relatively new tune “Dangers of Rah Rah,” debuted on New Year’s Eve 2024 as per go-set.net. DIAP then linked up another tune unveiled last NYE, “King Henry,” with the beloved Vince Guaraldi Peanuts instrumental “Linus & Lucy.” “Power Trip” and a cover of Glenn Nishida and Mark Governor’s “Stadium Rave” wrapped the first frame.

DIAP went big to kick off the second set with staple, “Craig and Pat,” which they expanded to the 20-minute mark before heading into “My Disguise.” The quintet then coupled “Samba For Sam” for the first cover premiere of the night, “Psychobilly Freakout.” The tune originally appears on the “godfather of modern rockabilly and psychobilly” Reverend Horton Heat’s 1990 album, Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em.

“Por Que Pedro” and the conclusion of “Samba For Sam” followed the “Psychobilly Freakout” debut. Dogs then offered the second and final cover premiere of the evening, country legend Marty Robbins’ “Cool Water,” a perfect song for the desert environment of Pappy + Harriet’s.

The second set came to a close with “Bugle on the Shelf.” Dogs In A Pile returned to encore with yet another cover, this time in the form of one of Dr. John‘s signature songs, “Such A Night.”
