Dogs In A Pile completed a two-night stand at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on Saturday. Night two saw the New Jersey-based jam quintet welcoming bassists Karina Rykman and Eggy’s Mike Goodman for a Ween classic.
After being introduced by jam band scene comedian “Mister Cam” Herdt, who is also set to MC Dogs’ inaugural Burning Daylight Festival, DIAP opened the show with “Snow Day” and also included a cover of The Kinks’ “Apeman” in the first set. The quintet did some jamming in the initial frame on “Nicolette,” festival namesake “Burning Daylight” and set-closer “Thomas Duncan, Pt. 3.”

Set two launched with “Yum T. Dum” ahead of “Stevie Lew.” The band then strung together four songs beginning with an exploration on “Unfocused” followed by “Gumball,” “Rabbit” and “Spun.” Staple “Trunk Rum” preceded the “Voodoo Lady” low-end extravaganza.
The sit-in began with Rykman joining the band — guitarists Brian Murray and Jimmy Law, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, drummer Joey Babick and bassist Sam Lucid — to kick off Ween’s “Voodoo Lady.”
Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz was a mentor to Karina and when other duties called him away from Marco Benevento’s band, he suggested Rykman as a fill-in. Karina — who also joined DIAP on Friday for her song “City Kids” — and Lucid held down the heavy groove on “Voodoo Lady” at Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday with Karina also laying down a solo alongside Sam. Eggy’s Mike Goodman then swapped in and traded riffs with Jimmy Law. Goodman also delivered a slap-fest solo on the four-string.
“Lucia’s Secret,” “Power Trip” and a 20-minute “Bugle on the Shelf” sealed the second set. DIAP had one more guest in-store for Brooklyn Bowl on Saturday, bringing out NYC-based musician Benny Pinnola on saxophone to conclude the concert with “Let U Go.” Watch DIAP’s full Brooklyn Bowl finale below (“Voodoo Lady” at 106:27):
