Dogfish Head Brews Up More American Beauty Ale

A few years ago Dogfish Head brewery debuted a Grateful Dead collaborative beer it called American Beauty. In conjunction with the five upcoming Fare Thee Well concerts celebrating the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary in Santa Clara, California and Chicago, Dogfish Head has brewed up another batch of American Beauty while debuting a brand new label.

Originally released in October 2013, the Imperial Pale Ale style was selected by the band, while chemist and homebrewer Thomas Butler -one of over 1,500 fans who suggested a Dead-inspired ingredient -proposed incorporating granola into the recipe.

“The components of granola – honey, toasted grains, oats – offer a lot from a beer perspective,” said Butler. “It was fun brewing with these guys. The Dead built their own institution, their own identity. It’s a family. And Dogfish culture is big, too. They’re the pioneers of playing with beer.”

The new batch of American Beauty is available on draft and in 750-ml bottles throughout Dogfish Head’s distribution network and wholesale partners in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, ME, MA, MD, MI, NV, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WI, DC.
