Music discography database and record-selling marketplace Discogs announced its Dis/Connect initiative. The daylong event takes place on Saturday, October 18, when participants are encouraged to listen to physical records.

“Imagine a moment where collectors everywhere log off, grab some records, and just listen,” said Kevin Lewandowski, Discogs Founder and CEO. “That’s a powerful moment to share with others who love music as much as we do, whether you’re spinning alone or with friends.”

According to the Dis/Connect website, participation starts with passing along the message of the initiative. Blank flyers and postcards were provided to facilitate invitations to friends, family, record stores, and other music fans. The next step is to “Step away from anything digital for the day” on Saturday, October 18.

The last step is to simply play records. Vinyl, CD, cassette or other physical formats are acceptable. After digging into your collection and reflecting on the experience, post about it the next day and tag @discogs on social media platforms.

“In a world drowning in noise, Dis/Connect feels like an act of rebellion,” said Jeffrey Smith, Discogs Vice President of Marketing. “We’re asking people to step away from their screens, even from Discogs, to remember that feeling of joy that comes from real connection. From community. From the music that makes you feel alive.”

Dis/Connect participants can host listening parties at home or in public spaces. Interested participants can fill out this form to receive additional information.
