Depeche Mode made the most of their appearance on Thursday as musical guests on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The 2020 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductees played their new single for last night’s episode and turned in a web-exclusive performance of 1989 hit “Personal Jesus.”
Co-founding members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore carry the band’s flag forward after the sudden and tragic death of Andy Fletcher last year at age 60. Gahan and Gore started the Violator classic as a slow dirge before picking up into its usual tempo. The pair were joined by drummer Christian Eigner and keyboardist Peter Gordeno for both “Personal Jesus” and Memento Mori lead single “Ghosts Again.”
Memento Mori is set for release via Columbia Records on March 24. Depeche Mode will support their 15th studio album and first without Fletcher by embarking on a 75-date world tour next month. Tickets for a fall leg featuring stops across North America go on sale today at 10 a.m. local time through Ticketmaster.com.
