The Del McCoury Band Performs Acoustic Guitar Session

Bluegrass patriarch Del McCoury brought the Del McCoury Band to the offices of Acoustic Guitar last November to film a session for the magazine. Del and his band stuck to instrumentals for the performance as the famed bluegrass put lots of wear and tear on his voice the previous evening.

The 79-year-old Del McCoury teamed with his longtime band of mandolinist Ronnie McCoury, banjo player Rob McCoury, fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartram for the Acoustic Guitar Session. Up first from the five-piece is a take on Earl Scruggs’ “Foggy Mountain Special.” The Del McCoury Band then works through Bill Monroe’s “Bluegrass Breakdown” before ending the session with Monroe’s “Wheel Hoss.”
