p:ear is an organization that serves homeless and transitional young people in downtown Portland through creative mentorship and programs in art, education and recreation.
p:ear has begun a campaign to purchase the building on the corner of NW 6th & Flanders in Portland. This building will serve as a stable home to the educational, artistic and recreational programs that define p:ear. The new 5,000+ square foot space is ideally designed and located to meet and enhance the programmatic and administrative needs of the program, including a rapidly expanding music program that will, with your help, have both acoustic and electric instruments, as well as a digital recording facility.
p:ear is founded on the belief that we can all become more, and that empowering youth to achieve their individual potential will result in a healthier community for everyone. Through compassionate relationships based on trust and courage, these youth can make peace with themselves and see themselves beyond homelessness.
Music is an essential expression for every teenager, and for p:ear youth, it is often a cohering and sustaining force in lives marked by chaos. At p:ear, youth have the opportunity to listen and explore recorded music, to participate as audience members at a variety of live musical performances, and most importantly, to create, compose and collaborate on making music of their own.
We urge you to bring this gift to Portland’s homeless youth by donating generously in the auction. Your money will go directly to building a new music room for p:ear youth.
