Dean Ween Explains Why He Still Plays Ween Songs

Tonight, The Dean Ween Group returns to the stage for a performance at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. While attendees can expect to hear new material and fun covers, there will also plenty of Ween songs on tap. Guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo explained why he won’t ignore the output from his time in Ween as part of a interview with the Asbury Park Press.

“At first I thought I had to separate myself from those songs, but then I realized that I wanted to embrace them,” Ween told the paper of record in the Jersey Shore area. “I spent over 25 years in Ween and there’s no reason to pretend that it never happened and I am not totally super proud of what we did. Those songs mean a lot to me and to the fans, they want to hear them and I want to play them, so that’s that really.” And we love Deaner for it.

“Piss Up A Rope,” “Gabrielle,” “Transdermal Celebration” and “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night” are among the Ween classics that The Dean Ween Group have been known to perform. The Dean Ween Group follow tonight’s show in Asbury Park with performances at Brooklyn Bowl (Saturday) and Suwannee Hulaween (Sunday) this weekend.
