Drag City Records will release a new Dead Rider album entitled Crew Licks on September 22. The album’s lead single is a cover of a classic song originally performed by the Grateful Dead.
The Chicago-based group led by Todd Rittman is following up their 2014 Drag City debut Chills On Glass. The new nine-song record features the art-rockers’ cover of “Ramble On Rose.” Here’s how a press release describes their arrangement of the classic Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter composition:
[A] torched/scorched/morphed, does-this-even-count-as-a-cover?-cover evoking ghosts of the Dead. The beat of “Ramble on Rose” is lode-bearing, brick-house solid, but flexible and with room to breath. The groove creeps and wafts through the room with the gloss of eternal rhythm and blues, swelling the shades of a dusty, aphrodisiac evening.
