As previously reported, this Friday’s Dead & Company Summer Tour opener in Charlotte, North Carolina will host a Participation Row featuring “local organizations fighting discrimination and national organizations dedicated to voter registration and protecting the planet” as well as voter registration organization HeadCount. In conjunction with co-organizers REVERB, HeadCount will also be presenting a Participation Row at all 23 Dead & Company summer headlining shows.

Each city’s Participation Row will host various different nonprofit and charitable organizations selected by the band including North Carolina’s Equality NC and Time Out Youth Center, as well as the Rainforest Action Network, NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and many others. Any concertgoer who makes a stop and takes action at three invited non-profit booths will receive a free “VOTE” pin featuring the John Mayer-designed band logo and will be entered into a free raffle for a D’Angelico “lightning bolt” guitar signed by Mayer along with his mates Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti.

“Participation Row will combine the carnival atmosphere of a Grateful Dead parking lot with some fairly serious and organized citizen actions,” said Andy Bernstein, HeadCount executive director. “We’re creating an environment where people can not only register to vote, but also learn more about issues and causes the election will impact.”
