Dead & Company Debut ‘Watchtower’ Cover In Camden: Videos & Full Show Audio

After four shows with no repeats Dead & Company started to hit upon songs for the second time this tour, but still had a number of tour debuts and a D&C debut in store for fans at BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey on Monday night. Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir along with John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge had another strong showing in the Philly area that included a dream second set setlist.

Mayer was up front to start the show with the tour’s first “Bertha” before passing the lead vocal baton to Weir for a typically funky “Shakedown Street.” John then stepped back into the spotlight for Dead & Company’s first 2016 versions of “West L.A Fadeaway” and “Row Jimmy.” The band continued to show off their skills and massive repertoire with tour debuts of “Crazy Fingers” and “I Need A Miracle” ahead of a set closing “Big Railroad Blues.” Dead & Company had unveiled their rendition of “Big Railroad Blues” last month at The Fillmore in San Francisco.

The second set was a more jam-fueled affair with extended takes on “Playing In The Band” and “The Wheel” leading into another impressive “Eyes Of The World” filled with outstanding interplay between the sextet. Mayer then stepped to the mic to sing the Jerry ballad “Standing On The Moon.” It was right back to the jamming with a “Let It Grow” that expanded to nearly 15 minutes. The Rhythm Devils of Hart and Kreutzmann kept their “Drums” segment a little shorter on Monday night, while “Space” was also a quick affair. A cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower,” sung by Weir as he did with the Grateful Dead, emerged out of “Space” and was the evening’s lone Dead & Company debut. While Bobby belted “Morning Dew,” the Dead repertoire staple was highlighted by Mayer’s powerful solo. “Not Fade Away” ended the second set in sing-a-long fashion before John, Bobby and Oteil brought out acoustic instruments for a “Ripple” encore. Dead & Company’s tour continues tonight at SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York with a webcast available via
