Dawes delivered their first holiday concert on Saturday. One of the highlights of the guest-filled evening at The Bellwether in Los Angeles came when Dawes teamed with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James and keyboardist Bo Koster for “Oh My Christmas Tree.”

My Morning Jacket included a cover of “Oh My Christmas Tree” on their 2023 Happy Holiday! album. “Oh My Christmas Tree” is the title track off Dr. Dog’s 2013 holiday album, written by the band’s Scott McMicken.

“I have always loved the songwriting of Scott McMicken so much and his tune ‘Oh My Christmas Tree’ has long been one of my holiday favorites, so we decided to cover that one,” MMJ frontman Jim James noted recently on including the tune on Happy Holiday!.

The song was a natural choice for James and Koster to perform with Dawes for their holiday concert. Watch the performance below:

Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith kicked off the holiday concert solo with Dawes’ “A Little Bit of Everything,” which featured Taylor changing up the lyrics to reflect the holidays. The concert also saw Taylor’s wife Mandy Moore joining for “How Could This Be Christmas?”

Toward the end of the show, a mini Simon Dawes reunion took place. Simon Dawes was the band from which Dawes originated after Blake Mills left the group in 2006. Mills emerged to lead his “Skeleton Is Walking” before Simon Dawes performed a pair of songs from their catalog, “Lazy Daisy” and “Salute the Institution,” which closed the main set.

The star-studded encore got underway with “Christmas In L.A., a song co-written with The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers. The title track to Dawes 2015 LP, All Your Favorite Bands, brought the holiday concert to a close. Check out a clip of “Christmas in L.A.” below:

Coming up for Dawes is a holiday run through the Northeast including a stop at The Capitol Theatre. Check out the band’s full tour itinerary below:
