By Scott Bernstein Mar 11, 2020 1:32 pm PDT

Members of Dawes performed a pair of Grateful Dead covers for their Relix session on Wednesday afternoon. Taylor & Griffin Goldsmith teamed up for renditions of “Jack Straw” and “He’s Gone.”

Bob Weir wrote “Jack Straw” with Robert Hunter. The Dead first performed the song on October 19, 1971 during their Fall Tour 1971 opening show. Hunter penned “He’s Gone” with Jerry Garcia. The Grateful Dead unveiled the tune on April 17, 1972. Both songs appeared on the band’s Europe ’72 live album. Taylor and Griffin are no strangers to the music of the Grateful Dead having recently performed two shows with Phil Lesh, Grahame Lesh and other members of Dawes at Terrapin Crossroads.
