David Shaw Details New Solo Album ‘Take A Look Inside’ & Shares Song He Wrote For His Sister

The Revivalists frontman David Shaw confirmed a new solo album, Take A Look Inside, out October 4 via his Yokoko Records. The singer-songwriter also shared the single, “Arms of the River,” which he wrote to lift his sister’s spirits.

Take A Look Inside follows David Shaw’s 2021 self-titled solo debut. Shaw handled production duties on the new record at Esplanade Studios in his adopted hometown of New Orleans. The singer-songwriter previously shared Take A Look Inside’s title track and “Alabama,” the latter a response to the ongoing assault on women’s reproductive rights.

David detailed Take A Look Inside:

“It’s easy to run for your entire life. As you get older, there are always emotions and thoughts you don’t want to touch. Much of Take A Look Inside was about sitting down for even five minutes and asking, ‘What is this feeling? Why is it being brought up now?’ I chose to face these feelings, ask what they needed, and use them. By shedding some of this shit, I didn’t have as much anxiety. I was happier all around too.

“I hope people can listen to this album when they need some kind of medicine. I want it to be like a trusted friend you can lean on who never judges you. I’ve realized I’m forever a student of life. I love learning about myself, my friends, and my family. Having a child has profoundly shifted my perspective and how I approach life. I wish I’d started this process ten years ago, but life happens when it happens. I’m thankful to be growing more than ever.”

Shaw also commented on the latest single, “Arms of the River.”

“My sister was going through a rough patch,” he said, “and I wanted to craft something for her that could potentially lift her spirits and make her feel better. It’s definitely a family tune. The single artwork is an old picture of us, so it’s very special.”

David Shaw has a headline solo tour around Take A Look Inside kicking off at Tipitina’s in New Orleans on Halloween. Shaw also has 2025 tour dates on the books.
