David Byrne Announces Additional US Tour Dates
Music legend David Byrne recently kicked off his first solo tour since 2009 in support of American Utopia, his new studio album. Byrne and the rest of his 12-piece band perform a choreographed, “untethered” concert that includes a mix of Talking Heads favorites, material from American Utopia and more.
Recently, a pair of New York City concerts were added to the tail end of the tour and now a series of dates surrounding those performances have been confirmed. The September/October portion of the American Utopia Tour is currently scheduled to begin in West Long Branch, New Jersey on September 7. From there, Byrne takes the tour to Wallingford, Connecticut on September 8; Albany, New York on September 9 and Portland, Maine on September 11 ahead of the New York City performances at September 15 in Queens and September 17 in Brooklyn.
The tour continues with newly announced dates in North Charleston, South Carolina on September 23 and the Florida cities of Jacksonville on September 26, Orlando on September 28, Miami Beach on September 29 and Tampa on September 30. David Byrne also added a performance in Dallas on October 6. Tune-Yards has been tapped to open all of the September concerts.
Tickets for the newly announced concerts go on sale Friday, March 16 at 10 a.m. local.
Byrne recruited students from the Detroit School Of Arts Vocal Jazz Ensemble to perform and make a video for the American Utopia single “Everybody’s Coming To My House.” A video shared by the former Talking Heads frontman features personal perspectives and interpretations from the students, which were filmed in part by their classmates.
