Dave Matthews Debuts ‘Crash Into Me’ In Newly Surfaced Video From 1995
Video of a previously undocumented Dave Matthews and Stefan Lessard performance from 1995 has surfaced and includes the first known version of “Crash Into Me.” The song would serve as the title track for the Dave Matthews Band‘s sophomore studio album, Crash, the following year and scored the group a big hit.
Dave and Stefan played a set on the side stage during a H.O.R.D.E. Festival stop at the New World Music Theatre in Tinley Park, Illinois on August 18, 1995. The pair were joined by their DMB band mate, LeRoi Moore, for renditions of “Raven” and “Blue Water” that start the 17-minute video from the set. “Raven” was previously thought to be debuted two nights later on August 20, 1995 during DMB’s show in Cincinnati.
Next up in the video comes what is now thought to be the debut of “Crash Into Me.” H.O.R.D.E. co-founder and Blues Traveler frontman John Popper guests on “Crash Into Me” as well as the jam that follows and the “What Would You Say” finale. Popper notes “What Would You Say” would be the final song of the set and advises the crowd to go see The Black Crowes on the main stage.
