Dave Matthews Band Offers Up Bust Out In Saratoga

Dave Matthews Band was back in at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday to close their two-night run at the upstate New York amphitheater. The jam act dug deep last night as they unearthed one song, teased a rarity and delivered yet another tour debut.
DMB got their night going in Saratoga Springs with the Come Tomorrow track “Again And Again.” The Charlottesville-born band then reached for “JTR.” The unreleased tune, which was originally recorded for the band’s follow up to These Crowded Streets and later leaked on the bootleg collection affectionately known as The Lillywhite Sessions, was dusted off for the first time since July 3, 2013 – a span of 369 shows. From there the band offered up their second takes on “Big Eyed Fish” and “Lover Lay Down” on this run. Longtime fan-favorite “Satellite” the recently revived “Louisiana Bayou” and Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” helped fill out the first half of the show.
“Bartender” from the band’s 2003’s Busted Stuff was trotted out for the first time since September 2016. “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begins) kicked off the back half of their 19-song main set that also featured takes on the likes of “#41,” “Jimi Thing,” and the traditional pairing of “Pantala Naga Pampa” > “Rapunzel.” Dave Matthews Band closed out their stand at SPAC with their second big surprise of the night as offered up a portion of “#40.” The long-lost classic which dates back to 1995 has been teased a number of times throughout the years but has only been played in full 25 times total with just four of those takes coming in the 2000s. The last full version of “#40” came as a one-off back in 2015. DMB finished off their night with “Sister” and just their second take on the old-school “Two Step” this summer.
