Dave Matthews Band Announces ‘Live Trax Vol. 47’ From Hartford 1997

Dave Matthews Band will issue an official recording of their June 8, 1997 show as the next installment of the Live Trax live archival series. Live Trax Vol. 47, currently on sale through the band’s official store, is due to ship on March 27 with downloads available on March 29.

The concert featured on Live Trax Vol. 47 is notable for a number of reasons including the first appearance by saxophonist Jeff Coffin on a DMB stage. Coffin was touring with Béla Fleck and the Flecktones who were opening for Dave Matthews Band. He would go on to guest with the band over a dozen times through 2008, when Coffin was asked to fill-in for LeRoi Moore. LeRoi had sustained injuries in an ATV accident on his farm. Sadly, Moore died from complications stemming from the accident at which time Jeff joined DMB and has been a member ever since. Coffin discussed the circumstances regarding his joining DMB and leaving The Flecktones during a recent episode of Inside Out With Turner & Seth.

Live Trax Vol. 47 begins with tour debuts of “One Sweet World” and “The Best Of What’s Around.” Fan-favorites “Jimi Thing” and “Crash Into Me” follow. Then, Béla Fleck emerged for a nearly 40-minute run of “Lie In Our Graves,” “Seek Up” and “Two Step.” Jeff Coffin makes his DMB debut in joining Fleck as guests for an adventurous “#41.” The first-ever full band version of “Leave Me Praying” comes next. “Leave Me Praying” would eventually turn into “Don’t Drink The Water.”

The show continues with “Say Goodbye” and then Fleck returns for quick romps through “Ants Marching” and “Tripping Billies.” Dave Matthews Band finished the set with “Lover Lay Down,” “So Much To Say,” “Anyone Seen The Bridge” and “Too Much.” The quintet ended the night with a “Drive In Drive Out” encore.
