Dave Matthews Band Jams With Jimmy Herring & Postpones Sunday’s Show

By Jeffrey Greenblatt May 27, 2018 9:32 am PDT

On Saturday night Dave Matthews Band brought their summer tour to Atlanta for a show at the Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood. The jamband stalwarts continued to debut material from their upcoming studio album and brought out their first guest of the run for a pair of songs.

As they’ve been doing throughout their current tour, DMB used the opening slot last night to deliver another live debut from Come Tomorrow performing “That Girl Is You” for the first time. Dave Matthews & Co. then peppered their night with selections from throughout their songbook. Their 17-song main set saw them offer up takes on fan-favorites likes “One Sweet World,” “What Would You Say,” “Song That Jane Likes” and “Typical Situation” along with a handful of tunes that they’ve recently revived including “Lousiana Bayou,” “Hello Again” and “Stand Up (For It).”

Towards the backend of their night, Matthews’ welcomed Jimmy Herring to the stage. The current Widespread Panic guitarist first collaborated with Dave Matthews Band members Carter Beauford, LeRoi Moore and Boyd Tinsley during his tenure with Aquarium Rescue Unit when they guested with ARU on back-to-back nights in 1993. Matthews returned the favor more than two decades later when the band last played the then named Lakewood Amphitheatre in 2016 as Herring sat-in with DMB for a trio of tunes. Last night Herring lent a hand on “Satellite,” a song he also played with the band during his last guest appearance, and “#41.”
