Dave Matthews Band Continues To Deliver Tour Debuts At 1st Of 2 In Saratoga

Dave Matthews Band brought their current summer trek to upstate New York on Friday night for the first of two shows at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. As they’ve been doing throughout this run the venerable jam-act continued to dig into their songbook for a handful of tour debuts which included a pair of rarities and a tune from Dave Matthews’ solo catalog.

Dave Matthews & Co. got their night going at SPAC with “Come Tomorrow” the title track from their recently released studio album. The band’s first surprise of the night came next as they unearthed “Raven” as the Busted Stuff track was seeing action for the first time since September 3, 2016. DMB then worked their way through a mix of tour staple with tunes like “This Girl Is You,” “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begins)” and “Can’t Stop” from Come Tomorrow sitting alongside fan-favorites likes “Warehouse,” “What Would You Say” and “Ants Marching.”

The Charlottesville-born band also delivered a number of songs that had only seen action a handful of times on this run with “Stay Or Leave” being played for just the fourth time, while “Minarets” and “Captain” made their way into the setlist for just the third time each and “Seek Up” being tapped for just its second. Late in the set, the Dave Matthews Band offered up their second tour debut of the night with “Time Bomb.” The song from Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King was in heavy rotation from 2009 through 2012 was played just once 2013 and then sat on the shelf until earlier this year when the band busted it out during their one-off show during Super Bowl weekend.

Dave Matthews Band capped their first of two in Saratoga Springs with a three-song encore that found them serving up “Some Devil” the title track from Matthews’ 2003 solo effort for the first time since 2014, with “Pig” and “Don’t Drink The Water” helping bring the night to close.
