Dave Grohl shared a two-part mini-documentary chronicling his recording of a 23-minute instrumental track. Grohl played all seven instruments on “Play” and he directed the accompanying short film.
Part one of the mini-documentary focuses on the challenges of recording the lengthy song as well as other aspects of making music. Part two is the complete performance of “Play” featuring Grohl playing all the instruments on the track. Grohl explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he first laid down the drum track and confined himself to recording each of the six other tracks live in one take.
In addition to the mini-documentary, an interactive “Play” website was launched allowing users the ability to toggle between isolated audio and video of each instrument. Sheet music is also available to download. Head here for the website experience and watch the mini-doc below:
