Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl appeared on Wednesday night’s episode of CBS late night program The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Dave was a guest on the show along with his mother Virginia Grohl who penned a book titled From Cradle To Stage: Stories From The Mothers Who Rocked And Raised Rock Stars. The Grohls chatted with host Stephen Colbert and then Dave ran over to the drum kit to sit-in with Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Jon Batiste & Stay Human.
Virginia told stories of a young Dave and even showed off his 6th grade report card. The chat took a more serious turn when Colbert asked about the time after Kurt Cobain’s death. “It was such a dark, sad time. David came home after that and we all had to regroup,” Virginia said. Dave added, “Whenever I felt overwhelmed with everything I just went home” and talked about his friends and family that surrounded him at the time.
Here’s Stephen Colbert’s chat with the Grohls:
After the Grohls were finished talking to the host, Dave got up and headed to a small drum set arranged in the middle of house band Jon Batiste & Stay Human as well as New Orleans fixtures the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Grohl added drums to a fiery rendition of “Santiago” off Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s recently released album, So It Is.
