Dave Chappelle & John Mayer Honor Charlie Murphy In Columbus
By Scott Bernstein Apr 13, 2017 • 6:42 am PDT

Guitarist John Mayer‘s The Search For Everything Tour continued on Wednesday night at Value City Arena at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. The evening came to a close with Mayer bringing out his old friend, comedian Dave Chappelle, for what turned into a tribute for the late Charlie Murphy.
Charlie Murphy was both a cast member and writer for Chappelle’s Show. Murphy succumbed to leukemia earlier in the day. John Mayer usually ends each show on his current tour with a solo piano rendition of “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me.” On Wednesday, the guitarist started the final segment of the show by introducing current Ohio resident Dave Chappelle. Mayer and Chappelle talked about their friendship and then Dave brought up the passing of Charlie Murphy. Chappelle went on to introduce John Mayer’s performance of “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me” as a song that reminded him of Murphy. The comedian looked on as Mayer played the solo piano version of the ballad to conclude his show.
