Daryl Hall has filed a lawsuit against his longtime partner John Oates, as reported by Philadelphia magazine. Hall has also reportedly been granted a restraining order against Oates set to take effect on November 30.

Daryl Hall and John Oates relationship began under duress when they had a chance meeting in a elevator after violence broke out at battle of the bands their respective groups were playing at in Philly. While the experience seemed to have bonded the pair, their relationship has seen its fair share of ups and downs over the decades despite being one of the most successful duos in popular music.

Most recently, Hall’s lawsuit was filed in a Nashville chancery court and Philadelphia reported the suit “is classified as a ‘contract/debt’ matter, is under seal and neither party has yet made a statement on the situation, so we just don’t know what the suit is all about.”

Philadelphia noted it reached out to Hall’s lawyer and management but at the time of publishing had not received a response. Trouble did seem to be brewing as both Philadelphia and Stereogum pointed out that Hall appeared on Bill Maher’s podcast Club Random and said, “You think John Oates is my partner?… He’s my business partner. He’s not my creative partner.”
