Ever since Dark Star Orchestra announced the departure of longtime bassist Kevin Rosen in May, DSO has been without a permanent bassist. Today, the band revealed that Skip Vangelas, one of the musicians who the band called upon to tour with them temporarily in the Phil Lesh role, has joined DSO as a permanent, full-time member.

Vangelas played with DSO guitarist/vocalist Rob Eaton in the band Border Legion and was briefly in DSO himself in 2001. Here’s the statement from the band, “Following the Spring departure of our longtime bassist, Kevin Rosen, we offered temporary spots to a handful of talented performers. Today, we announce the formal, permanent bassist role going to Skip Vangelas who is currently on tour with us. Vangelas previously played with Rob Eaton in the band Border Legion and was briefly in DSO himself in 2001. We are thrilled to have him locked in as our man of choice for this vital role.”

Dark Star Orchestra plays The Fillmore in San Francisco tonight and tomorrow.
