On June 2 Dan Auerbach will release his second solo album Waiting On A Song. The “love letter” to his current home of Nashville will be issued on his new label Easy Eye Sound, which shares a name with his Music City-based recording studio.
Over the years The Black Keys guitarist has utilized his studio and his production skills on a number of projects, including his recently established band The Arcs. This edition of Saturday Stream presents a Spotify Playlist made up of tracks in which Auerbach’s guitar, bass, drums, keys and/or vocals can be heard on recordings often featuring his production or songwriting as well.
The playlist begins with “Shine On Me,” the Waiting On A Song lead single which is one of seven songs on the album co-written by current Nashville resident John Prine who is one of several legendary locals who contributed to the LP. The set concludes with “Goin’ Home,” the closing track from Auerbach’s last solo album, 2009’s Keep It Hid.
Between those two songs are 23 other selections from across Auerbach’s varied career. There are a few The Black Keys deep cuts, including covers of Buddy Holly and Bob Dylan. There’s also a pair of tracks by his regular collaborator Jessica Lee Mayfield, including their tribute to David Bowie. Other collaborators making up the playlist include the likes of Dr. John, Grace Potter, Bombino, Valerie June, Lee Fields, Pretenders, Ray LaMontagne, Michael Kiwanuka and more. The Black Keys hip-hop project Blakroc is represented with a track, as a song from The Arcs’ 2016 debut Yours, Dreamily. Dig into Dan’s work below:
