The Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach is set to release a new solo album Waiting On A Song on June 2 through his newly establish Easy Eye Sound record label. The Arcs guitarist has shared a video for the album track “King Of A One Horse Town.”
The follow-up to 2009’s Keep It Hid, Auerbach has described Waiting On A Song as his “love letter to Nashville,” the city he’s resided in since leaving Akron, Ohio seven years ago. The 10-track effort showcases collaborations with Nashville-based icons like John Prine, Duane Eddy, Jerry Douglas, Pat McLaughlin and The Memphis Boys’ Bobby Wood and Gene Chrisman, as well as guitarist Mark Knopfler.
“The King Of A One Horse Town is anyone who’s scared of the outside world,” said Auerbach in a statement. “Anyone who’s afraid to go beyond their own block for fear of failure. It could be a drug dealer. A drunk. A professor. That’s a feeling any of us can relate to.”
Premiered by Pitchfork, the video for “King Of A One Horse Town” was directed by Aaron Hymes who issued the following statement regarding the project:
Living in L.A. can make it kind of challenging to shoot something that hasn’t been seen before. Almost every square inch of this area has already been put on film. I wanted to shoot somewhere that could give an “Anytown U.S.A.” vibe, so we drove all over the state of Utah from the salt flats to a little town called Helper capturing bits and pieces from towns along the way. The goal was to make it feel kind of androgynous and not anywhere specific. Utah was perfect for that.
