Cymande Announces ‘Renascence,’ 1st New Album In A Decade & 2025 U.S. Winter Tour Dates

Highly influential British funk-fusion group Cymande are set to return with their first album in 10 years, Renascence, due out January 31, 2025 via BMG. The LP is previewed with the single, “Chasing An Empty Dream.” Cymande also announced 2025 U.S. Winter Tour dates around the record.

Formed in London in 1971 by guitarist Patrick Patterson and bassist Steve Scipio, Cymande released three albums in the early ‘70s before disbanding in 1974. But the group’s music continued to influence later funk and hip-hop artists.

A true return to form and jewel in the crown of their iconic discography, Renascence picks up where their 1974 album Promised Heights left off – a spiritual and sonic follow-up, bringing a fresh modern edge to their iconic sound, which remains foundational to early hip-hop and funk scenes in the United States and UK.

Ben Baptie produced Renascence, which sees guest turns from Jazzie B and Celeste. Steve Scipio detailed the album’s lead single, “Chasing An Empty Dream.”

“The genesis for this song stemmed from an observation on the kind of world we are living in; reflected in the materialistic focus of today’s society and culture,” he said. “But the song also has a positive message of hope and optimism. A hope that one day society will see sense and pull back from the brink; to once again understand and appreciate the importance of the values that were once held so dear, in shaping a positive future for all.”

Cymande is set to hit the road around Renascence in February hitting major U.S. markets including New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. The tour wraps in Los Angeles on February 28. Noise Pop will join the band in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
