The third time was a charm for Cure For Paranoia as the Dallas-based hip-hop collective finally won this year’s Tiny Desk Contest after two previous entries. The group led by frontman Cameron McCloud recently swung by NPR Music’s Washington D.C. headquarters to perform for the Tiny Desk video series.

Cure For Paranoia wowed NPR Music’s judging panel with a submission showcasing the outfit’s vulnerability, inventive lyricism and undeniable chemistry. “From the moment we hit play on this year’s entry, they had us,” shared NPR’s Robin Hilton, “A perfect mix of catharsis, humor, and humanity.” Other members of the panel included Bobby Carter, Tierra Whack, Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield and more.

The prizes for winning the concert were a Tiny Desk appearance, the headlining slot on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest On The Road tour and a feature on NPR’s famed All Things Considered program. The nine-date Tiny Desk Concert On The Road tour begins on June 10 in Los Angeles. Cure For Paranoia will perform at venues across the country as part of the trek through a show on July 19 in Washington D.C.

Cameron McCloud was accompanied by his ten-piece band for Cure For Paranoia’s three-song Tiny Desk set. McCloud used the opportunity to explain what led to the creation of the project and the meaning behind its moniker.

“Ten years ago, I was placed on medication for bipolar depression and paranoid schizophrenia — but it turned out that music was way more therapeutic than medication was, so I created this band, this brand, this movement, called Cure For Paranoia,” McCloud said. “Making music with these people is my therapy, so hopefully the music we create can be therapy for other people as well.”

All three songs played by Cure For Paranoia behind the Tiny Desk were used by the band for their contest submissions. The politically-charged “The Airshow” opened before the group delivered “No Brainer,” the song that took home top honors in the 2026 concert. McCloud posted a new rap verse on Instagram each day of 2025. “No Brainer” combines several of those verses into one cohesive song.

Cure For Paranoia closed the session with “That Kid Cam,” the song they picked for their first Tiny Desk Contest entry. The lyrics were fitting as they discuss perserverance, a key element in what has brought the group to the national spotlight. McCloud took a moment mid-song to make sure viewers didn’t take Cure For Paranoia’s mission as a reason to stop taking their meds.
