Cris Jacobs brought the Cris Jacobs Band down the Jersey Shore on July 27, 2019 for a performance at The Anchor’s Bend in Asbury Park, New Jersey. JamBase recently teamed with show organizers Jams On The Sand to premiere pro-shot full show video of the concert, which serves as this week’s Full Show Friday selection.

The Baltimore-based singer-songwriter and his band focused on original material throughout the two-set concert with a few choice covers thrown in for good measure. Jacobs’ band that night featured bassist Todd Herrington, drummer Dusty Ray Simmons and guitarist Jonathan Sloane. The CJB has since undergone a lineup change that saw Sloane depart and the additions of keyboardist Ben White and guitarist Corey Wells.

On July 27, 2019 the Cris Jacobs Band worked in a number of songs from Color Where You Are, a studio album Jacobs released just three months prior to the show. “Painted Roads,” “Under The Big Top,” “Buffalo Girl,” “We’ll Act Like Strangers” and “Rooster Coop” were the five songs off the 10-track LP to make the setlist in Asbury Park. The first set in Asbury Park was bookended by covers of Larry Jon Wilson’s “Ohoopee River Bottomland” and “Rocket Man” by Elton John.

Jacobs and company’s second set got underway with “Bone Digger,” a song Cris wrote and recorded for 2016’s Dust To Gold that Greensky Bluegrass has covered frequently over the past two years. The frame continued with Paul Kennerly’s “Got Me A Woman,” a tune Levon Helm recorded for his Dirt Farmer LP. Jacobs then led the group through Color Where You Are’s “Rooster Coop” and “The Devil Or Jesse James” off Dust To Gold before belting out Taj Mahal’s “Queen Bee.”

The Cris Jacobs Band delivered “Dragonfly” off 2012’s Songs For Cats & Dogs and Dust To Gold gem “Delivery Man.” It was then back to Songs For Cats & Dogs for “Be My Stars.” Jacobs and his band ended the concert by covering “Hey Pocky Way” complete with a sizzling bass solo from Todd Herrington.
